The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Thursday that it continues to enforce the maritime blockade against Iran, noting that 104 commercial vessels have been rerouted since the measures were resumed on July 14 as part of efforts to ensure compliance.
CENTCOM added that the first phase of the blockade, launched in mid-June, resulted in the rerouting of 194 vessels and the disruption of nine others.
The announcement came after US President Donald Trump said the confrontation with Iran had entered its final stages, while asserting that Tehran was strongly interested in reaching an agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most sensitive issues in negotiations between Washington and Tehran, as around one-fifth of global oil supplies pass through the strategic waterway. With efforts to reach an agreement on reopening the passage continuing to face obstacles, Washington has renewed its economic pressure on Tehran through sanctions and the maritime blockade.
