The joint BepiColombo mission has achieved a major breakthrough after the European Space Agency successfully detached the spacecraft's Transfer Module.

This step sets the stage for the probe's orbital insertion at Mercury this November, concluding an eight-year voyage powered by gravity assists from Earth, Venus, and Mercury.

Developed jointly by ESA and JAXA, the spacecraft will split into two separate orbiters to examine Mercury’s surface and magnetic environment starting in early 2027.
