The Arab League has reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia amid attacks attributed to the Houthi movement, warning that continued hostilities could heighten regional tensions and threaten security and stability across the Middle East.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said attacks against the Kingdom, reportedly resulting in deaths and injuries among people of various nationalities, constituted a dangerous escalation and violated international legal principles. He stressed the need to halt such attacks and prevent further threats to civilian lives.
Fahmy warned that repeated attacks could increase the risk of a broader regional confrontation, underscoring the importance of serious international efforts to contain tensions and prevent further security and political repercussions.
He called on the international community to take firm action to stop the attacks and hold those responsible accountable. He also stressed that condemnation alone was insufficient, emphasizing the need for practical measures to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure and prevent further incidents.
The Arab League chief reiterated the organization's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for measures aimed at protecting the Kingdom's territory, citizens and residents. He noted that Saudi security is an essential component of Arab national security and that attacks against any Arab country can have wider consequences for the entire region.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over continued attacks on Saudi territory, with renewed calls for regional and international efforts to contain tensions and prevent further escalation.
