Chinese technology giant Alibaba unveiled a new artificial intelligence chip on Tuesday, alongside plans to develop more advanced and powerful AI models, as global competition for leadership in the sector continues to intensify.
The announcement was made during the company’s annual conference in Hangzhou, where Alibaba introduced the new processor and described it as the most powerful AI chip developed by the company in China. It also outlined plans for the next generation of its AI models.
The launch comes ahead of an expected meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, with competition in artificial intelligence expected to be among the major issues discussed, alongside trade and tariffs.
Beijing and Washington continue to expand their investments in AI technologies, as concerns in the United States grow over the rapid development of China’s capabilities in the field.
