Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi met on Monday with TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne to discuss the development of oil and gas projects in Iraq and plans to expand the company’s investments in the country.

The talks covered TotalEnergies’ strategic projects, particularly in the gas sector, as well as the government’s plans to increase the utilization of associated gas and move toward self-sufficiency. The two sides also discussed Iraq’s plans to raise oil production over the next five years.

Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of expanding oil exploration across Iraq to support economic growth and national development, while pointing to preparations for an international energy conference in Baghdad.

Pouyanne expressed the company’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Iraq, noting that TotalEnergies currently has around $12 billion invested in the country, with plans to increase its investments to $16 billion in the future.

Separately, Al-Zaidi met Rothschild Chairman Edouard de Rothschild to discuss strengthening cooperation with international banks and financial institutions, developing Iraq’s banking sector, improving its credit rating and supporting efforts to build a diversified economy.

De Rothschild highlighted Iraq’s investment potential and the opportunities available for international financial institutions to contribute to the country’s development plans.
