Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr welcomed the scheduled withdrawal of US forces and international coalition troops from Iraq on September 30, urging Washington to respect Iraq’s national decision to end the foreign military presence.

In a statement posted on X, al-Sadr described the expected withdrawal as beneficial to Iraq and the international community, while expressing hope that it would not lead to renewed foreign interference that could threaten Iraq’s sovereignty and independence.

He firmly rejected any external intervention in Iraq’s internal affairs and warned neighboring and other countries against interfering in the country’s domestic issues.

Al-Sadr stressed that Iraq’s security forces are capable of defending the country, calling for security affairs to remain exclusively under the authority of the central government and away from sectarian and ethnic divisions.

He said the withdrawal date could mark the beginning of a period of stability and prosperity, reaffirming his opposition to occupation, terrorism, and corruption.
