Iraqi government spokesperson Haider Al-Aboudi said on Monday that Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zeidi’s talks with French officials will address several issues, with security cooperation expected to be a key part of the discussions.
Al-Aboudi noted that the security file will be present during the talks, pointing to September 30 as an important sovereign milestone closely awaited by Iraqis.
He said Iraq is working on establishing security understandings and cooperation arrangements with various countries, stressing that the outcomes are intended to serve Iraq’s national interests.
Earlier, Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zeidi met French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace ahead of bilateral talks covering several issues, alongside the expected signing of a number of memoranda of understanding.
Al-Aboudi said on Sunday that the prime minister’s visit to France would include the signing of memoranda of understanding covering eight fields.
