A 4.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded east of Sulaymaniyah on Monday, according to Iraq’s Meteorological Authority.
Ali Abdul Khaliq, director of the authority’s Seismic Monitoring Department, said the tremor was located through data from the national seismic monitoring network and accurately detected by the authority’s stations.
No casualties or material damage have been reported so far, he added.
Abdul Khaliq explained that Iraq’s northern and eastern border regions experience occasional light to moderate earthquakes because of their proximity to active seismic belts. He said seismic activity continues to be monitored around the clock.
