Police in Iraq’s Diyala province have arrested a suspect accused of illegally trading in foreign smuggled medicines after discovering 260 units of various human medicines inside a cosmetics store in Baladruz district.

In a statement, the Diyala Police Command said the operation followed intelligence-led investigations conducted by the Organized Crime Directorate in coordination with local police units. The investigation uncovered the use of the store as a cover for selling medicines that had not undergone the required health inspections and regulatory checks.

Authorities said the medicines were concealed in a hidden storage area at the back of the premises to keep them out of sight and facilitate their illegal distribution.

The seizure was carried out in the presence of a specialized team from the Diyala Health Directorate. Police also apprehended the suspect, who reportedly admitted to conducting the trade covertly and outside legal procedures.
